About NaturArte

NaturArte is a community project located in Santa Clara, Cuba unlike any other of its kind. It was founded by Ermes Ramirez Criado in 1999.

What was once a lot of empty land filled with garbage has now become one of Santa Clara’s most beautiful sites! Most of the garbage has been disposed of properly by either recycling it or discarding of it in a proper dump area or sold to junk buyers. The money received from these sales have been a large part of what has helped NaturArte expand their project.

The metal that was not sold and was kept as a resizable material has actually been transformed into into actual garden art! Criado and many volunteers from the community have taken on the task to reuse all the materials that are reusable and convert them into either art for the location or as building material for the many different structures within NaturArte.

For example, within this gorgeous destination one can find gardens comparable to that of of Adam and Eve’s, and can experience the presence of the abundant palm fronds within the gardens and beautiful tropical flowers along with ponds that contain bright colored fish.

Ramiro has also incorporated an urban farm as a part of NaturArtes project to re-establish environmentally friendly ways to grow food. The farm includes birds and fowl, and many different species of chicken whose origins stem back to Poland and Brazil. It also encompasses turkeys and many, many quails that keep geese and pheasants, ducks and guinea fowl, company. Some of the birds have actually come to win national awards!

This beautiful environmentally friendly sanctuary also includes a craft area where one can find bright flower pots creatively decorated with leaf design printed from real leaves, which are available for sale.

One can also admire the ornamental sculptures made of plaster and other kinds of recycled material. These ornaments can also be purchased as a souvenir or decoration for your home.
